Dr. Megan Lewis

Megan A. Lewis, Ph.D. is a Senior Scientist and Program Director in RTI International’s Center for Communication Science. Dr. Lewis received her Ph.D. from the University of California at Irvine in Social Ecology, focusing on how the social context influences people’s behavior, health, and well-being. She was a faculty member at the University of Colorado, Boulder in social psychology, and then at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the School of Public Health before joining RTI. Her research has recently focused on how digital interventions delivered via mobile devices can support informed decision making, patient engagement, and enhance behavior change across a variety of chronic health conditions or medical decisions. The outgrowth of this work has recently focused on the role of immersive technology to support informed decision making and behavior change.

She currently directs the Patient and Family Engagement Research Program at RTI, and is the principal investigator or co-investigator on six federally-funded projects that examine how to engage HIV positive patients in regular care, support overweight and depressed patients in weight management efforts, and provide tools for people to make decisions about what types of genomic sequencing information they want to learn about themselves or family members. Her research has resulted in over 80 peer-reviewed publications.
